English Training Program
One of the factors that has attributed to the growth of the APS market is that poor parents want their children to speak English. They believe that English fluency offers increased opportunities through better job prospects and higher paying positions. The majority of APS schools are English medium, aligning their offering to parent’s demand. While there is tremendous demand from parents, school owners, as well as ambitious teachers, there is a void in the APS market for affordable English language training. Good teachers are the number one indicator for student achievement, so English training has the potential to reach beyond language skills and impact overall student learning outcomes.
GMC is working in collaboration with Pratham(www.pratham.org) to sponsor an affordable English Language Training program for APSs as a start towards GMC’s goal of increasing access to and quality of primary and secondary education for the poor in India. The training program commenced in January at Cambridge University in the Old City, Hyderabad.
